Born on March 11, 1941, in Galax, Virginia, Betty was the daughter of Elwood and Flora Amburn. Throughout her life, she touched the hearts of many with her kindness, passion for genealogy, and dedication to her community.
Betty’s journey began at Carroll County High School, where she graduated in 1960. Her professional endeavors led her to become a legal secretary for several law firms, where her commitment and proficiency shone brightly. Her passion extended beyond personal interest as she authored and published books on the subject, sharing her knowledge with others.
Beyond her professional and academic pursuits, Betty was known for her adventurous spirit. She organized and led bus tours to various destinations, including Canada, Vermont, and Branson, Missouri, creating unforgettable experiences for those around her. Her involvement in the Patrick County Music Association and volunteer work at the Patrick County Historical Museum reflected her commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of her community.
Betty’s legacy is carried on by her daughter, Marcie Mabe, and cherished by her nephew, Chris Amburn, niece Kelly Amburn, and a host of friends and relatives. She leaves behind beloved companions, including her cat Junebug and grand dog Oreo, who brought joy into her life. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Sycamore Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member.
