For those who frequented the Queen of Hearts at McHenry VFW Post 4600, Ben was a familiar and beloved figure. His presence there was a testament to his dedication to fostering a sense of support and camaraderie among veterans. His infectious energy and enthusiasm made every event he attended unforgettable. Ben’s warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he was the kind of person who could light up any room with his smile – a smile so genuine you could feel it over the phone.
In 2021, Ben attended the Forging Forward Retreat, an experience that not only strengthened his bonds with his fellow veterans, but created lifelong friendships. During this retreat, many had the privilege of meeting Ben’s wonderful wife, Kim, and their family, further deepening the bonds within the veteran community. Ben’s openness and honesty were rare qualities that set him apart; He was a man who lived with happiness, earthiness and authenticity and generously shared these qualities with those around him.
The impact Ben had on his friends, family and the wider community cannot be overstated. He was a true patriot, a dedicated military veteran, and a beloved brother, husband, father, and friend. His loss is deeply felt not only by his immediate family and friends, but by the entire McHenry VFW Post 4600 and countless others who were fortunate enough to know him.
