About Ben Gay
Benjamin Gay was recognized as a USA Today first-team All-American after graduating from Spring High School. He furthered his education at Baylor University and Garden City Community College, where he earned a master’s degree in biology. Throughout his professional football career, Benjamin played for the Cleveland Browns and the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL, and for the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian Football League. Notably, he was a third-string running back in the 2001 NFL season and scored a touchdown in the Browns’ 27-17 victory against Baltimore. After his NFL career, Benjamin worked as a welder until his passing.
Benjamin and his wife, Margarita, were known for their dedication to raising and mentoring numerous children, including those who were not their own.
Benjamin was an active member of Platte Valley Baptist Church and was devoted to his Christian faith. He enjoyed working on cars, spending time with his family, and maintaining his relatives’ yards. Benjamin always found contentment in keeping himself busy.
He is survived by his wife, Margarita Gay; their son Damian Ortega; their daughters Julie Ortega and Brianna Morales; his brother Rodley Johnson; his sisters Kathy Gay, Benika Gay, Stacey Butler, and Lola Smith; as well as several nieces and nephews.
