Bassam Mhaidat Obituary, Death;- York Regional Police have confirmed the identity of the individual who perished in a late-night fire at a restaurant located north of Toronto, while also reducing the severity of the charges against the suspected arsonist.
Authorities report that the remains of 22-year-old Bassam Mhaidat, a resident of Mississauga, were discovered within the charred remains of the restaurant on February 16. The individual accused in this case is now facing a charge of manslaughter, which has been downgraded from the previously announced second-degree murder charge.
Additionally, the 22-year-old remains charged with arson. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene of the fire, which was fully ablaze shortly before 3 a.m. in Nobleton, a locality within King Township. Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames and subsequently located a body inside the establishment.
