Barbara Price Obituary, Death; – An 80-year-old woman, who was left for deceased on the roadside after being struck by a vehicle, has been identified.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office is currently offering a reward of $10,000 for any information that may lead to an arrest. Floyd Carter is still coming to terms with the unexpected loss of his 80-year-old neighbor and cherished landlord, Barbara Price.
“I am deeply hurt; my heart is shattered,” he expressed. “Barbara was an extraordinary person. I lost my mother in 2010, and I always referred to her as my second mother. She cared for me and for him.”
Price, along with her now widowed husband, who suffers from dementia, owned a multi-family apartment building in Oakland Park. On Wednesday evening, the elderly woman chose to walk across the street to a convenience store. However, as she crossed Powerline Road near Northwest 39th Street in Oakland Park, she was struck and killed by an SUV, with the driver failing to stop.
Detectives suspect that the vehicle involved was a light blue Land Rover sport SUV, manufactured between 2005 and 2009, which sustained damage to the front passenger side from the collision.
“This could be your grandmother or your mother,” stated Gerdy St. Louis from the Broward Sheriff’s Office. “This incident is profoundly tragic, as this woman was left deceased on the roadside. Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward.”
Surveillance footage from a nearby establishment captured the moment when shocked witnesses halted in disbelief, followed by a rapid response from BSO deputies who arrived at the scene, declaring the beloved grandmother deceased.
“He must be apprehended and held accountable for his actions,” Carter asserted. “She was an incredible woman, truly the best, and I hope she is at peace in heaven.” Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
