Barbara Crombie Obituary – Barbara Anne (Hlivak) Crombie, a resident of Bratenahl, Ohio, died unexpectedly in Dover, Ohio, on the morning of March 29, 2024. Cleveland was the site of Barbara’s birth on December 22, 1940. They settled in Hudson, Ohio, after her marriage to John Poremba, Jr., and reared four children there. Barbara helped small businesses all around Northeastern Ohio as a health insurance broker for Principal Financial Group. She created a successful career while living in Hudson.
Following her marriage to Dr. Robert Crombie, Barbara enjoyed living in Bratenahl and Geneva-on-the-Lake, both of which were near the shores of Lake Erie. To be closer to her son, she relocated to Dover, Ohio in 2021. Barbara has generously donated her time and energy to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Walk MS: Cleveland for many years. She relished the opportunity to volunteer for the Bratenahl Blooms event that took place every spring in Bratenahl.
In addition to her beloved grandkids, great-grandchildren Roxis, Cassady, Victoria, Charlotte, and Mason, Barbara is survived by her adult children John Poremba III (Sue), Peter Poremba (Ginny), Michael Poremba (Ania), and Patricia Barlow (Chris). Anne and Peter Hlivak, her parents, her sister Mary Lou Hlivak, her ex-husband John Poremba, Jr., her sister Virginia “Ginny” Ewart, and her spouse Dr. Robert Crombie all passed away before her.
The memorial service is scheduled for 1 Bratenahl Place, Bratenahl, Ohio, on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The open house is scheduled for the top floor of Building One from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, with a prayer session at 3:30 PM. Charity donations can be made in lieu of floral arrangements to organizations such as the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or the Friends of Rockefeller Park Greenhouse.
