It happened early Sunday afternoon off the coast of St. Augustine. Local police were the first to reach the boat and rescued the two people on board. Dave Schummers, 64, was driving on Niles Canyon Road on May 19 at about 9:25 p.m. when his motorcycle struck a guard rail protector and he was ejected into the brush bordering Niles Canyon Creek, according to police. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Schummers was pronounced deceased at the scene.
