The victim has been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as Rita Faye Edwards. The incident occurred on Alabama Highway 51 at the intersection with Pinson Boulevard. Edwards was transported to UAB Hospital, where she subsequently passed away. According to the coroner, she was the sole occupant and driver of her vehicle. The investigation is being conducted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
