The incident was reported around 9:15 p.m. in the 3100 block of West Liberty Street, where police officers, responding to a distress call about a shooting, discovered Hicks suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers arrived on scene and conducted an investigation that resulted in the location of an adult female suffering from fatal injuries. Medical personnel were summoned to the scene, and the victim was pronounced deceased. The decedent has been identified as Jakaira Ortiz (Black female, 24 years old).
