Tragedy struck Akron, Ohio overnight as a shooting near Kelly and 8th avenues left at least 27 victims in its wake, one a 27-year-old man who died.
The chaos began just after midnight with a flurry of 911 calls reporting multiple people shot.
The wounded were rushed to nearby hospitals, while police swarmed the scene recovering dozens of shell casings and a single gun.
Despite their efforts, no suspects have been apprehended yet.
Summa Health Akron Campus [formerly Akron City Hospital] is treating victims of the recent shooting. According to police, some of the 27 injured individuals arrived at the emergency room on their own.
The ER entrance is currently secured by police tape, and surrounding roads are close
A woman named Jennifer Henderson Robinson informed Channel3 NOW, “I am currently sitting outside Akron General. My husband is a patient in the Emergency Department, which is on lockdown, and I am unable to enter. I called the hospital, and they confirmed that there was a shooting and that the ED is on lockdown.”
A woman named Sarah Ostrander stated, “I work at Akron City, and multiple gunshot victims have been brought here. Akron General, Barberton, and Akron City are all on lockdown.”
Police ask public to please stay out of the area.
