Arthur Stern Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 33 in Orange County last Wednesday.
Arthur Stern, an 82-year-old resident of Gordonsville, was fatally injured in the incident, as reported by Virginia State Police on Sunday.
The tragic event took place at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday on U.S. 33, also known as Spotswood Trail, near the junction with Virginia Route 645, or Magnolia Road. This location is situated roughly midway between Gordonsville and Horton Vineyards.
According to the police statement, a 2013 Ford E-150 was heading east on Route 33 when it crossed a double solid yellow line and collided head-on with a westbound 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The force of the collision caused the tractor-trailer to veer off the road and strike a fence.
Stern, who was operating the E-150 van, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Authorities noted that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 51-year-old man from Orléans, a community near Ottawa in Ontario, Canada, was unharmed and also wearing a seat belt.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
