LESAGE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Investigators have determined that a fire at a Cabell County church was intentionally set, according to the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The blaze broke out Wednesday at the Brighter Day Ministry Church on Nine Mile Road in Lesage. Firefighters first responded around 12:10 p.m. to a small fire in an attached shed behind the church.
Officials ruled that fire to be arson.
Roughly two hours later, crews were called back to the scene for multiple new fires — this time at each entrance of the church and its nearby fellowship hall.
Investigators also ruled these fires to be intentionally set.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has developed preliminary leads on suspects and is actively pursuing them.
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the West Virginia Arson Hotline at 1-800-233-FIRE (3473).
