Antonie Dewayne Bankhead Jr Arrested;- On August 12, 2020, a 17-year-old male was admitted to DCH Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, authorities reported that he succumbed to his injuries.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) indicated that the shooting occurred at a residence where several witnesses were present. However, some witnesses were either uncooperative or could not be identified at that time. Due to the lack of a clear sequence of events leading to the shooting, no charges could be filed initially.
Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit continued to pursue the case, and by late 2024, they were able to reconstruct the probable sequence of events surrounding the incident.
The case was subsequently presented to a grand jury, which resulted in the indictment of 22-year-old Antonie Dewayne Bankhead Jr. on charges of manslaughter. Bankhead was apprehended on the evening of March 20, 2025.
The TCSO stated, “No homicide investigation conducted by the Violent Crimes Unit is ever considered closed unless the perpetrator has been identified and/or charged. The dedication of the investigators who have worked on this case over the past four years deserves recognition.”
Authorities have confirmed that no identifying details regarding the juvenile victim will be disclosed.
Bankhead is currently being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail with a bond set at $20,000.
