Antionette Jennings Obituary, Death; – The 52-year-old woman who lost her life in a triple shooting on Wednesday evening in north Baltimore has been identified by authorities as Antionette Jennings.
She was the mother of a 29-year-old man and the grandmother of an 11-year-old girl, both of whom sustained non-life-threatening injuries while in a vehicle during the incident, according to police reports.
Jennings was discovered inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police are currently investigating the shooting but have not disclosed any details regarding potential suspects. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 5400 block of York Road in Govans.
In a statement to WBAL-TV, Police Commissioner Richard Worley indicated that officials suspect a “minor altercation” may have escalated, leading to the family being specifically targeted.
Jennings worked as a pre-K paraeducator at Waverly Elementary/Middle School, as confirmed by a spokesperson for Baltimore City Schools. Reports from WJZ indicate that she was present at her granddaughter’s basketball game at the nearby Tunbridge School prior to an altercation that resulted in the gymnasium being evacuated.
A letter addressed to parents from the principals of the Tunbridge School and The Belair-Edison School mentioned that an “altercation” occurred at the conclusion of a basketball game between The Belair-Edison School and The Seed School, which took place at the Tunbridge School.
“The altercation was promptly addressed by staff, and the situation was de-escalated. The two teams were dismissed separately and left the school safely on their buses,” the principals stated.
The letter also referenced the subsequent shooting at the intersection of York Road and Woodbourne Avenue, noting that families “may have observed police activity.” However, it did not explicitly link the gymnasium incident to the shooting.
As of Friday morning, there have been 10 fatal shootings in Baltimore this year, according to a police spokesperson, compared to 11 during the same timeframe last year.
