Anthony Souvenir Obituary, Death; – A shooting incident occurred inside a Walgreens store in Miramar on Monday, resulting in the death of a man following a confrontation with another customer, according to police reports. Authorities have apprehended 28-year-old Jaime Taylor in connection with the incident, and he is currently facing a manslaughter charge.
The shooting took place shortly before noon at the Walgreens located in the 2400 block of S.W. 101st Avenue, near the intersection of Miramar Boulevard and Palm Avenue. The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Anthony Souvenir, who was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Family members of Souvenir revealed that Monday marked his birthday. His father shared with CBS News Miami that the day began joyfully, with the family singing “Happy Birthday” in celebration. Souvenir later visited Walgreens to withdraw cash but did not return home.
Miramar Police Chief Delrish Moss stated that the incident arose from an argument between the two men within the store. “This was a dispute between two customers that escalated into an argument,” Moss explained. “One of the individuals drew a firearm and shot the other. The victim was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition. We believe the suspect is in custody, and the situation is under control.”
Moss voiced his concerns regarding the increasing tendency for firearms to escalate conflicts. “In today’s society, individuals resort to using guns instead of engaging in civil discourse, leading to tragic outcomes,” he remarked. “A simple disagreement has resulted in a fatality, and now one individual may face a lengthy prison sentence.”
Crisis intervention specialists and victim advocates were deployed to support witnesses present during the shooting. The Walgreens store remained closed on Monday afternoon, with no information available regarding its reopening. Souvenir is survived by his girlfriend, their newborn child, four siblings, and his parents, as noted by his father.
