Anthony Mediate Obituary – In a calm and quiet manner, Anthony James Mediate, who was 87 years old and from Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Concordia of Monroeville. His parents, Rocco Mediate and Maria Francesca Mediate, both passed away before his birth on March 27, 1937 in Wall, Pennsylvania. It was in 1957 when he first met his future wife, Donna, and on November 5, 1960, they tied the knot.
Over the course of more than four decades, Anthony, or Tony as his friends and family referred to him, worked as a hairdresser on his own. In 1967, he established Coiffures by Anthony, and a few years later, he moved the business to College Avenue, where it quickly became a central fixture in the neighborhood. Beyond the confines of Greensburg, he was a well-known character in the community. Tony was a devoted fan of various sports.
He spent his childhood playing baseball with Joe, who was both his best friend and his brother. Additionally, he was a member of the Pirates farm league baseball team for a considerable amount of time. Next, he moved on to playing golf, which he enjoyed doing with his family and friends at Greensburg Country Club and Hannastown Golf Course. He was a big fan of both of these courses. He was a happy father who saw his son Rocco thrive on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. He helped his son develop a passion for golf, which he passed on to his son.
In addition to that, Tony was well-known for his Italian cuisine. Family, friends, and anyone else who was interested were his favorite people to feed. The house was the place where he and his golfing companions would get together for supper on a number of occasions. Tony cherished being a PapPap, or Double Pap, to his six grandkids, Rocco Vincent, Nicco (and his wife Thania), Marco, Blake, Logan, and Francesca.
He enjoyed this role more than anything else in the world. The times that he was able to spend with them and listen to them talk about their experiences and activities were something that he held dear. Tony’s wife Donna and their son Vincent Michael passed away before him. His parents were also among those who came before him in death. He is survived by his three children, Rocco Mediate and his wife Jessica, Nicole Leavy and her husband Peter, and Gina Mediate; six grandchildren; his best friend and brother, Joe and his wife Donna; his nephews Joe Mediate and his wife Stephanie.
Marc Mediate and his wife Heather; his niece Kathy Vernau and her husband Jack; his great nephews Justin and his wife Kelly, Jacob, and Owen; and his great nieces Camryn and Caitlin. Family and friends are welcome to stop by the Kepple Graft Funeral Home on Friday, April 5 from 4 to 7 o’clock in the evening. On Saturday, prayers will be recited at nine o’clock in the morning at the funeral home, and then at nine thirty, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, there will be a funeral mass for Anthony. After the funeral, the burial will take place at the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
The children and family of Tony would like to express their deepest gratitude to Sue Eubank, Tony’s closest friend, for the unwavering support, love, care, and kindness that she has showered onto our father. On earth, she was our guardian angel. Over the course of the past few years, Tony’s family has become Sue’s family. For allowing our father to spend time with your family, we would want to express our gratitude to Chad, Joya Carmen, and Ethan; Sheri and her son Andrew; JoAnna and Steve; and young Logan. How much it meant to both him and to us is something that you will never know. In addition, the family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the personnel at Concordia of Monroeville for the extraordinary love, support, and generosity that they showed Tony and the rest of the family when he was a patient there.
