Anne Achieng Confer Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of an individual who perished after a pickup truck fell into San Diego Bay near Harbor Island last Thursday. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, Anne Achieng Confer, 53, from Maryland, was one of three individuals in a GMC pickup truck that veered off the road and into the bay.
Officers from the Port of San Diego Harbor Police Department responded to multiple reports of the vehicle in the water near the southern edge of Harbor Island at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Thursday. When crews arrived, Confer and a man, whose identity remains undisclosed, were trapped inside the vehicle.
Divers successfully retrieved both Confer and the man from the water, and paramedics transported them to local hospitals. Despite efforts to save her, Confer was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m. Harbor Police reported that another woman involved in the incident had been rescued by good Samaritans prior to the arrival of emergency services. She was taken to a hospital, but her current condition is unknown.
An update from the medical examiner’s office indicated that, in addition to Confer, another occupant who was hospitalized has also died. It remains unclear whether this individual was the woman rescued before emergency personnel arrived or the man who was trapped with Confer in the vehicle. The San Diego Harbor Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
