Anllelith Solis Obituary – Ana Suarez announced in a translated Facebook post on Monday, May 20, that her niece, Anllelith Solis, was discovered on the shores of South Padre Island.
The Coast Guard, in a news release on May 19, mentioned that they had been looking for the teenager — initially identified as a 13-year-old girl — after she was swept away by the rip current near Beach Access 5 on South Padre Island. Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi watchstanders were informed at 7:15 a.m. local time by Cameron County dispatchers following the incident. “A 7-year-old girl, one of the children, was rescued from the water and transported to the hospital in stable condition,” the agency reported.
“Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and instructed the launch of a Coast Guard Station South Padre Island 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search for the missing child,” the Coast Guard stated in their release.
PEOPLE has contacted the Coast Guard for a statement. On Monday, the Cameron County Park Ranger shared in a Facebook post that they were informed of a body “washing up on the shoreline 2 miles north on county beach access 5” around 11:10 p.m. local time.
“The Cameron County Park Rangers retrieved the body and received confirmation from the aunt and uncle of the deceased teenager,” authorities confirmed. “It was verified to be the missing 14-year-old swimmer in distress from earlier in the day.” A GoFundMe fundraiser initiated by loved ones of the teenager has collected over $15,000 as of the morning of May 22 for funeral expenses. The tribute included, “Please continue sending your thoughts and prayers to the family as they cope with this loss.”
