Andrew Corona,Ashlee Corona Obituary, Death; – A man and a woman were discovered deceased in a Phoenix apartment, and a toddler sustained injuries, as reported by the police department on Sunday evening.
According to Phoenix Police, officers responded to shooting reports at approximately 8:30 p.m. on January 5, near the intersection of 99th Avenue and Indian School Road, specifically within the Avilla Gateway apartment complex.
“When officers arrived, they were informed by callers of an argument that was followed by multiple gunshots fired inside an apartment,” stated Sgt. Phil Krynsky. “Upon entering the apartment, officers found a deceased man and woman, along with a toddler who had suffered a gunshot wound.” The victims were identified as 38-year-old Andrew Corona and 35-year-old Ashlee Corona. The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“Initial information indicates that the male, Andrew Corona, shot his wife, Ashlee Corona, and their child before turning the gun on himself,” added Sgt. Krynsky. Investigators are currently working to ascertain the events leading up to the shooting. Neighbors have described the couple’s relationship as toxic, noting that they had frequently heard arguments, with Sunday night being no exception.
Thanks to the attentiveness of one individual who noticed the abrupt cessation of the argument, the young boy may have a chance at survival. “I heard arguing, followed by multiple gunshots,” said Ruben Ojeda, an employee at the apartment complex who called 911. Initially uncertain whether the sounds were fireworks, he felt compelled to act when he noticed the sudden silence.
“That’s when I think reality started to kick in. Fortunately, I heard the baby cry. It wasn’t even a loud cry; it was muffled. I’m not sure if she was on top of him or what the scenario was, but that’s what motivated me to make that phone call,” Ojeda explained.
Neighbors reported that they had heard the couple arguing intermittently for a year, but the intensity of the fight on Sunday night was notably louder. “It didn’t even last, from what I heard, five seconds. It just escalated from zero to one hundred,” Ojeda recalled. While police have confirmed that the toddler was transported to the hospital in critical condition, further details remain undisclosed.
