Andre Dewayne Lamont Obituary, Death; – On Thursday, authorities disclosed the identity of a man who was fatally shot by a law enforcement task force on the West Side of Cleveland.
The Cuyahoga County medical examiner’s office identified the deceased as 47-year-old Andre Dewayne Lamont Martin from Garfield Heights. According to officials, Martin brandished a knife at two officers prior to their use of firearms.
The officers were part of a task force that included agents from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations and the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission. The officers involved were from the Medina County Sheriff’s Department, assigned to this unit.
The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Staples, located at 2150 West 117th St., as stated by Cleveland police.
The task force was present for a narcotics investigation when Martin allegedly drew a knife upon noticing the officers, prompting the deputies to fire.
He was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Martin was the subject of the narcotics investigation. Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer have sought comments from the Medina County Sheriff’s Department.
It is standard practice for federal law enforcement agencies to collaborate with local officers during investigations. Agencies such as the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives frequently partner with local law enforcement to create larger task forces.
The investigation is currently being conducted by Cleveland police detectives.
