Anaya Zachary Obituary, Death; – A teenage boy has been charged with murder following an incident in which he allegedly shot and killed a teenage girl at a playground within an apartment complex in Baytown on Friday afternoon.
Baytown police reported that the shooting took place around 4 p.m. in the 4600 block of Village Lane. The victim was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Family members have identified her as 14-year-old Anaya Zachary. They noted that both she and the alleged shooter were students at Baytown Junior High in the Goose Creek CISD.
According to police, initial reports indicate that Zachary and the teenage boy had an altercation earlier that day, potentially on the school bus. Subsequently, while Zachary was at the playground, the boy approached her and opened fire.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the suspected shooter due to his juvenile status. The investigation is ongoing, particularly regarding the potential for charges against the parents.
Goose Creek CISD issued a statement regarding the incident:
“We can confirm that one of our students from Goose Creek CISD was shot and unfortunately succumbed to their injuries on Friday, March 21, after school near their home. Staff and parents have been informed of the tragedy. On Monday, the district will offer social-emotional support to students and staff on campus.”
