Alexander Yepez Ortega Obituary – The Ceres Police Department has identified the man who was shot and killed by a police officer on Friday afternoon as 22-year-old Alexander Yepez Ortega of Ceres. According to the police, the incident began at approximately 11:40 a.m. when officers responded to a call regarding a man wielding a knife at his family members on Dirk Court.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspect, Alexander Ortega, had an outstanding arrest warrant in Modesto. Upon the arrival of the police, Ortega fled through neighboring yards and was eventually found hiding in a vehicle on 6th Street after approximately 30 minutes.
The police attempted to apprehend him, but at some point during the encounter, he was shot by at least one officer. Ortega succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The identity of the officer involved in the shooting has not yet been disclosed. Additionally, another officer sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
