Alex Segal Obituary, – The family of a teenager who tragically lost his life after being hit by a train in Sorrento Valley has now identified him. According to NBC 7, the uncle of the teenager, named Alex Segal, confirmed his identity and shared that they laid him to rest over the weekend.
The incident occurred last Friday when Segal was riding his bicycle and attempted to cross the train tracks. Unfortunately, he was struck by an oncoming train after the northbound train had already passed through. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stated that Segal was unaware of the southbound train approaching.
Thankfully, the two other teenagers who were with Segal at the time were unharmed. Alex was a student at Torrey Pines High School and was actively involved in the boy’s junior varsity soccer team, as mentioned on the school’s website.
Principal Rob Coppo sent an email to the families of Torrey Pines, expressing their deep sadness and extending condolences to Alex’s family and friends. He also emphasized the importance of respecting the family’s privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
According to Matt Derkrikorian, a Trauma Program Manager at Rady Children’s Hospital, bike and ebike accidents are among the most common injuries treated during the summer. Nancy Sheehan-McCulloch, an executive director with the California Operation Lifesaver, highlighted that California has the highest number of fatalities in the United States, encompassing various incidents such as trespassing on tracks and crossing before it is safe. To honor the memory of the 17-year-old, a memorial has been erected.
