Ailyn Rafael Death, Kahului, HI—The Kahului community is grieving the loss of Ailyn Rafael, a beloved mother, daughter, and friend who passed away at the age of 46. Ailyn’s battle with cancer was marked by incredible strength and grace, earning her admiration and love from all who knew her. Ailyn’s health struggles began last year when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, which had spread to her lymph nodes. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and surgery in April 2024 to remove the cancer, her condition worsened. By June 2024, tests revealed that the cancer had metastasized to her liver and right shoulder, necessitating further treatments.
Ailyn also developed hemolytic anemia and ascites, complicating her already critical condition. Although she was medevaced to Straub for advanced care and briefly showed signs of recovery, she ultimately succumbed to her illness on August 19, 2024. In the wake of her passing, Ailyn’s daughter, Rose Anne Rafael, has organized a fundraiser to help cover the costs of her funeral and outstanding medical expenses. So far, the fundraiser has raised $770 of its $35,000 goal, with contributions from friends and family who loved and admired Ailyn. Among the donations are $50 from Zuleima Lopez, $20 from Alyssa Mae Antolin, $100 from Lane Thaut, $100 from Lori Steer, and $100 from Krystal Dominguez.
The community has rallied together on social media, sharing their sorrow and support for the Rafael family. Irene Santamaria shared on Facebook, “Shared on my page, Couz. Love you guys!” echoing the sentiments of many others who have offered prayers and donations. Ailyn’s compassionate and selfless nature left a lasting impact on those around her. Her memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Rafael family during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
