Adan Marez Obituary, Death; – A man was fatally shot during a road rage confrontation near the University of Texas campus on Saturday, according to the Austin Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 4:08 p.m. on the southbound service road of Interstate 35 at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Authorities report that 54-year-old Adan Marez was engaged in a prolonged road rage altercation with the occupants of a gold sedan. When both vehicles halted at a red light, Marez exited his car.
The driver of the sedan, identified by police as Jacob Gonzalez, then shot Marez, resulting in his death. At the time of the incident, Marez was unarmed. Gonzalez, 21, has been arrested and charged with murder, classified as a first-degree felony. As of Tuesday, no attorney information for Gonzalez was available. This incident marks the seventh homicide in Austin for the year, as reported by the APD.
“Given the circumstances of this crime and the significant number of individuals present in the vicinity during the shooting, it is believed that privately recorded video footage of the event may exist,” stated the police.
