Active Shooter; Gwinnett County Shooting, Man shot after opening fire on deputies, sheriff says: A guy was shot after opening fire on deputies outside the Gwinnett County Jail on Monday afternoon. The jail is presently closed down after the sheriff’s office reported a “active shooter situation.” There is a large police presence near the site off Ga. Hwy. 316 west of Lawrenceville.
No deputies were injured. The suspected shooter was sent to a hospital for treatment. His current state is unclear. Sheriff Keybo Taylor stated that the suspect, who was known to law enforcement, acted “erratically” before entering the detention complex. He exited the building and headed to his truck. That’s when he claimed the shootout occurred.
“We want to assure the community that the situation is under control, and there is no ongoing threat to the public’s safety,” said the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.
All traffic to the facility has been redirected, and no new detainees are currently being accepted, according to social media posts.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirmed that the sheriff’s office has requested that it investigate a shooting involving an officer at the jail.
