Abuzar Zaidi Obituary, Death; – The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of a 33-year-old man from Elgin who lost his life in a three-vehicle accident in Woodstock on Sunday.
Abuzar Zaidi was fatally injured in the incident, which also resulted in critical injuries to three juveniles and another driver. On Wednesday, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office provided additional details about the crash, which occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Sunday. Initial investigations indicate that a 2018 Mercedes-Benz was traveling east on Route 14 when it attempted to overtake a vehicle towing a trailer in a no-passing zone, leading to a head-on collision with a 2017 Toyota 4Runner, as reported in a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities stated that Zaidi, the driver of the Mercedes, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 6-year-old boy, a passenger in his vehicle, was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the 4Runner, a 43-year-old man from Cross Plains, Wisconsin, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two juvenile passengers in the SUV, an 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, were also taken to local hospitals before being airlifted to another facility for treatment of serious injuries, according to police reports.
Additionally, a 43-year-old woman, another passenger in the SUV from Cross Plains, Wisconsin, was hospitalized with injuries that are not deemed life-threatening, as stated in the news release. Authorities believe that the Mercedes may have been involved in a prior incident on Route 14 near Kishwaukee Valley Road before the crash occurred.
The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
