It’s a string of unfortunate events at Minneapolis’ Lynn Park neighborhood, first a family nearly mauled to death by the dogs next door, then the dog owners home goes up in flames the next day. Residents in the area hoping the series of events aren’t connected.
In a home security footage you can hear the agonizing shrieks of a mother screaming out for help. A pair of dogs from next door got into the yard and attacked the women and her two young children. The mother, doing everything she could to protect her kids.
Kim Smith, longtime neighborhood watch captain is shaken from her block reeling with back to back tragedies that began Wednesday night.
“We have always been a tight knit community, that’s why these two events are so horrific,” said Smith.
In the video you can see neighbors rushing to the families aid before the dogs owner pulled up and got the animals away. Smith helped launch a GoFundMe for the victims. The boys ages three and eight-years-old, both out of the hospital and home with loved ones. Meanwhile, the mother, Angel Jackson is hospitalized as her arm was badly injured from the dog bites. She has received five surgeries and her loved ones are extremely concerned about the healing of her arms.
“I would’ve given my life for my child, you know, and that’s what that mom was prepared to do. She went in there and she did everything she could to protect her children,” said Smith.
“She took the brunt, because she was covering her child and trying to fight off these dogs and they just started ripping into her arms, her legs,” she continued.
The dogs were immediately impounded, but just 72 hours later, Smith and her neighbors were shocked by what happened next; the home of the dogs owner exploding in flames.
Firefighters were seen working to put out the devastating flames.
Smith said she really hopes it was not anything retaliatory in her neighborhood.
Minneapolis police still unsure what started the fire.
