A Washington, D.C., family trip to Florida turned into a devastating nightmare early last weekend when 20-month-old Azariah Hough was found unresponsive in a hot tub at an Airbnb rental in Kissimmee, Fla., and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Just after 3:30 a.m. on December 13, 2025, deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue were called to a home on Nice Court after reports of a toddler found lifeless in a backyard hot tub. The family had been staying at the vacation rental, and first responders rushed Azariah to AdventHealth Celebration, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Her father, 33-year-old Reynard Tyrone Hough, told investigators he had taken his daughter to the hot tub sometime between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. and fell asleep while holding her in his arms. He said he woke up to find her limp and unresponsive, a scenario that left him and his relatives shattered.
According to law enforcement accounts, Hough admitted he had been drinking and had taken two different types of narcotics the night of the incident. When he awakened and realized what had happened, he ran into the house to alert the mother, but did not initially tell her that they had been in the hot tub together.
Investigators expressed concern over the decisions leading up to the tragedy, noting that the toddler, who could not swim, was in a hot tub with a depth of approximately three feet in cold overnight temperatures while her father was under the influence — a combination they described as preventable and deeply heartbreaking.
Detectives determined Hough’s actions amounted to neglect and, on December 14, added a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child to the initial child neglect charge with great bodily harm. He remains held without bond at the Osceola County Jail, and his next court date is scheduled for later this week.
Family members told local outlets they are struggling with profound grief in the wake of the loss, especially with the holiday season approaching and another infant in the home at the time of the incident. Their sorrow — and the sense that a joyful trip unexpectedly ended in tragedy — has resonated across the community.
What began as a simple vacation stay has now prompted an ongoing investigation and legal action, underscoring how fragile moments of inattention can have irreversible consequences.
