I had the privilege of accompanying Nanny Doreen on many travels as her loving caretaker and friend. Every time we were in her company, whether it was for impromptu shopping excursions or to indulge in our guilty pleasure of KFC, it was filled with love and laughter. Nanny Doreen’s vibrant enthusiasm shone through as she embraced each moment of life, defying the passage of time.
The fact that Nanny Doreen could say, “95 years young but not a day over 60,” was evidence of her vivacious spirit and love of life. She had a profound effect on everyone she met since she welcomed each day with such zeal and happiness.
My grandma, my rock, and my accomplice in crime, Nanny Doreen, was an incredible blessing in my life. With her unfaltering affection and wise counsel, she was there for me through the highs and lows of life.
Even though I’m devastated by her passing, I take comfort in the love we had and the memories we have. Over the next few weeks, I will treasure my time with loved ones as we remember the remarkable lady who had a profound impact on our lives and share memories about her remarkable life.
