A man was arrested following an alleged domestic dispute at a residence in Norwalk on Wednesday evening where shots were fired at a dog.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on Old Saugatuck Road just before 7 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a domestic dispute in which a shot was fired, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

Arriving officers located a large brown pit bull that was suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Officers immediately applied pressure to the wound and worked to stabilize the dog who was transported to the VCA Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center, where it was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said that a man identified as 52-year-old Jeffrey Vigil was allegedly involved in a domestic disturbance when the dog bit him on the leg. During the incident, Vigil is accused of shooting a firearm, hitting the dog, and fled the scene before officers arrived.

Norwalk detectives responded to the home and recovered a 9mm shell casing, according to police.

Information about the suspect vehicle was broadcast by Norwalk Combined Dispatch to area law enforcement agencies. Shortly after, Vigil was located by the Greenwich Police Department, who also allegedly recovered a Glock firearm.

Vigil was transported to Greenwich Hospital for treatment and was later processed at the Norwalk Police Department headquarters where he was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal violation of a restraining order and disorderly conduct. His bond was set at $150,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
