The UConn football program landed its first commitment in the Jason Candle era.
Bo Polston, a three-star quarterback in the 2026 class who was previously committed to Toledo, announced his pledge to follow Candle to Storrs on Wednesday night.
Polston, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, is a two-time state champion who’s thrown for more than 5,500 career passing yards at Decatur Central in Indianapolis. Ranked the 81st-best quarterback recruit in his class by 247Sports, Polston previously held offers from power conference schools like Indiana, Georgia, Michigan and West Virginia.
Toledo was the first school to offer him and he originally pledged to join Candle with the Rockets after his sophomore season in May, 2024.
The flip to UConn came just two days after Candle was officially introduced as UConn’s next head coach and a week after former Huskies commit Carter Emmanuel, another 2026 quarterback ranked No. 107 in the class by 247Sports, announced he would follow former head coach Jim Mora to Colorado State.
UConn, preparing for a return to the Fenway Bowl where it will meet Army to potentially complete its first-ever 10-win FBS season, has seen reports of at least 15 players planning to enter the transfer portal since Mora moved on a day before Thanksgiving. So far, none of the Huskies’ quarterbacks – Nick Evers, Ksaan Farrar or Tucker McDonald – have joined that group. Joe Fagnano, who completed 68.9% of his passes for 3,441 yards, 28 touchdowns and one interception as UConn’s starter in his seventh year of college football, will see his eligibility expire after the season.
