A woman who was allegedly seen slumped over the wheel of a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Interstate 91 in Wethersfield is facing multiple charges after she fled from state police.
A trooper patrolling I-91 south near the Exit 26 off-ramp in Wethersfield around 1:40 a.m. on Monday observed a red Honda Civic parked on the right shoulder that was partially blocking the travel lane, according to the Connecticut State Police.
State police said the vehicle was running, and a woman was allegedly seen slumped over the wheel. After deploying stop sticks as a precaution, the trooper approached the vehicle and alleged that the driver appeared to be dazed and confused. When instructed to put the car in park and step out, she allegedly put the vehicle in drive and fled while striking the stop sticks, according to state police.
The driver allegedly initiated a pursuit through Wethersfield, Route 3 and Glastonbury. State police alleged that she repeatedly failed to stop at traffic signals, crossed into oncoming lanes and reached speeds up to 75 mph.
“The pursuit was terminated for safety reasons, and multiple agencies began searching the area,” state police said.
According to state police, officers from Glastonbury Police Department later located the vehicle, which fled again after allegedly hitting a police cruiser.
Around 3:07 a.m., Troop H received a report of a car parked on Uconn Avenue in Glastonbury. Troopers located the same woman asleep in the back seat and when awakened, “she attempted to climb into the driver’s seat but was safely taken into custody,” state police said.
During the investigation, troopers allegedly observed numerous needles and registration plates inside the vehicle. “A records check revealed the Honda Civic had been reported stolen out of Simsbury on Nov. 23,” according to state police.
The driver, identified as 28-year-old Seneca Quintton Ann Josey, was transported to Troop H, where she was charged with two counts of improper use of marker/license/registration and one count each of speeding over 70 mph, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, failure to drive in proper lane, improper parking on a highway within 50 feet of another stopped vehicle, failure to obey stop sign, operating a motor vehicle without a license, illegal window tints, use of drug paraphernalia, larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense), interfering with an officer/resisting and second-degree reckless endangerment.
She was held on a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on Tuesday.
