After receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in 1957, he established a company in Dallas with Humble Oil. After receiving a call to ministry in 1961, Corky relocated his young family to Emory University in Georgia. He served several smaller churches there while earning his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology in 1964. After being appointed to the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, Corky, Barbara, and their three daughters relocated back to Texas. He was honored with this appointment.
