ARGOS, Ind. — A quiet Saturday morning turned tragic when a 57-year-old man from Niles was killed in a crash at the busy intersection of U.S. 31 and State Road 10 in Marshall County. The fatal collision occurred just before 8:00 a.m., authorities say, and left another passenger injured.

According to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, the victim has been identified as Christopher J. Jankoviak. Investigators say he was driving a westbound Chevrolet Equinox when the vehicle “entered the path of a north-bound semi-tractor-trailer.” The semi struck the Equinox squarely on the driver’s side, the coroner added.

First responders pronounced Jankoviak dead at the scene. A passenger in the SUV was transported to the hospital in South Bend; their condition has not yet been made public.

Authorities from the Argos Police Department and local fire and EMS units assisted at the scene, while the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department has pledged to release further details once the investigation concludes.

The crash has sparked renewed concern among locals about safety at this intersection. Recent past incidents there — including a semi rollover last month — had already drawn attention to its dangers.

For now, residents and travelers are urged to avoid U.S. 31 / State Road 10 if possible, or approach with caution — and wait for further updates from county officials.
