A student is being blamed for a bullet that was found at a high school in Litchfield on Friday, school officials said.

The 9 mm bullet was found on the floor in a classroom at Lakeview High School, according to Jeffrey A. Villar, superintendent of the Region School District 20.

Villar said Connecticut State Police were contacted and the facility was put into a shelter-in-place mode.

Using a K-9 unit, state police did a full sweep of the school to ensure no firearms were in the building, Villar said.

“The source of the bullet was ultimately determined to be a student,” Villar said in an email correspondence.

Villar was notified of the incident by the school principal. It was not immediately clear if the student faces charges.

Additional information was not immediately available.
