A 77-year-old woman has died following a head-on crash in Suffield on Thursday.
The crash occurred on Route 159 — also known as East Street South — where crews responded at 1:45 p.m. on the report of a serious two-vehicle collision, according to the Suffield Police Department.
Police, firefighters and medics responded to the scene and found that two vehicles had collided head-on.
According to police, the preliminary investigation found that the driver of a sedan headed south on Route 159 crossed over the double yellow line and collided with a sprinter style van which was headed north.
The sedan driver, 77-year-old Carol M. Breton of Windsor Locks, later died at Baystate Hospital, police said.
The driver and a passenger in the van reported minor injuries and declined to go to the hospital, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad.
