A man and a woman are facing animal cruelty charges after a puppy and a dog were found in a Seymour residence “severely malnourished and emaciated.”

Woodbridge Regional Animal Control received a call from a concerned individual on Oct. 27 reporting alleged animal neglect, according to the Woodbridge Police Department.

Woodbridge animal control officers, with the assistance of the Seymour Police Department, were dispatched to a Seymour residence where officers observed two dogs that were allegedly “severely malnourished and emaciated,” Woodbridge police said. One of dogs, an 11-month-old Cane Corso, was allegedly covered in feces and was immediately transported to VCA Shoreline Emergency Room in Shelton.

On Oct. 28, animal control officers were notified that the puppy died, according to Woodbridge police. A necropsy was conducted to determine the cause of death.

Woodbridge police said the report revealed that there was “significant evidence of severe emaciation that could be indicative of chronic neglect.” An arrest warrant application for the dog’s owner, 22-year-old Erica Kyttle of Seymour, was submitted to the court and approved.

While investigating the incident, officers observed a second dog at the residence, a Corgi, that was also severely emaciated, according to Woodbridge police. The dog was transported to VCA Shoreline Emergency Room for emergency medical treatment.

Woodbridge police said veterinarians indicated that the dog was “malnourished and was in starvation mode.”

The Corgi is recovering from his medical condition, according to Woodbridge police. An arrest warrant application for the dog’s owner, 26-year-old Wilfredo Lebron of Seymour, was submitted to the court and approved.

Kyttle and Lebron were taken into custody by the Seymour Police Department on Tuesday.

Kyttle was charged with cruelty to animals and conspiracy to commit animal cruelty. She was released after posting a $5,000 bond and she is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Dec. 17.

Lebron was charged with cruelty to animals and conspiracy to commit animal cruelty. He was detained on a $5,000 bond and is also scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Dec. 17.
