MORGANTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Ahead of Chief Jason Whisnant’s retirement, the city of Morganton has announced a new Interim Public Safety Chief.
Assistant Chief Ryan Lander served as interim Chief following the retirement of former Chief Tony Lowdermilk in 2022.
Lander has worked for Morganton Public Safety since 2002 and was initially hired as a PSO Trainee.
He previously worked in Special Operations, Criminal Investigations and Field Operations in various ranks. He is currently the Assistant Chief of Police Services and Fire Protection.
Lander will be sworn in on March 31 by City Clerk Renee Carswell.
Assistant Chief Lander said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve in this position again and look forward to continuing to provide the high-level of service to our community.”
Whisnant’s retirement date is set for April 1, 2025.
