Police are investigating after pulling over a driver in Groton on Monday and finding that they had been shot.

Police conducted the stop around 4 p.m. and found that the sole person in the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Lt. Travis Winkelman of the City of Groton Police Department.

Winkelman did not say what the reason for the stop was or where it was carried out.

Officers immediately gave the driver medical attention while crews from the City of Groton Fire Department and Groton Ambulance responded, Winkelman said. The victim was taken to an area hospital where their condition was not immediately clear.

Winkelman said investigators found that the shooting stemmed from an isolated incident which presents “no threat to the public.” No further details were released.

The investigation remains ongoing.

“The Groton City Police Department stresses that citizen cooperation is critical to a successful community partnership aimed at fighting crime and keeping our community safe,” Winkelman said in a statement.
