An 80-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Bridgeport on Monday.

The crash occurred in the 500 block of Clinton Avenue where emergency crews responded at 4:53 p.m. on the report of a serious collision involving a pedestrian, according to Sgt. Darryl Wilson of the Bridgeport Police Department.

Police found a man who had been struck by a car lying in the northbound lane, Wilson said. He was tended to by American Medical Response medics before being taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Wilson said the pedestrian, an 80-year-old Bridgeport man, suffered serious injuries and was listed in critical condition.

Officers secured the scene while the Bridgeport Accident Reconstruction Team responded to reconstruct the crash, according to Wilson.

A preliminary investigation found that a 67-year-old Fairfield resident was driving north on Clinton Avenue, Wilson said. As the driver approached the 500 block, the pedestrian tried to cross the street from the northbound side of the road and was struck, according to Wilson.

The driver was not injured and was cooperative, Wilson said.

The crash remains under investigation.
