Two-alarm fire at mixed-use building in Hartford leaves 22 people displaced

Nearly two dozen people were displaced following a two-alarm fire at a mixed-use building in Hartford early Tuesday.

Crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 163-165 Albany Ave. at 12:26 a.m. and found heavy fire conditions at the three-story brick building, according to the Hartford Fire Department.

A second alarm was activated when firefighters arrived, fire officials said. Crews found a fire in the cockloft above the third floor, officials said.

Primary and secondary searches determined that everyone had made it out of the building safely, according to fire officials. Multiple fire companies worked to suppress the fire, which was followed by overhaul efforts.

No injuries were reported.

According to fire officials, four families were displaced. This included 14 adults and eight children, officials said.

The fire department’s Special Services Unit and the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced families.

The fire is being investigated by the Hartford Fire Marshals Office.
