LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An off-duty Fern Creek Fire & EMS firefighter saved a child’s life while on vacation earlier this week.
Sgt. Aaron Dossey, who is also a part-time firefighter with Pleasure Ridge Park Fire, was visiting an indoor waterpark in Cincinnati when he noticed a dark object under the water.
Dossey realized it was a 12-year-old boy, who didn’t have a pulse. He pulled the child out of the water and started CPR. After performing CPR for several minutes, the boy started to breathe on his own. The boy, who had regained consciousness and communicating, was then taken to a local hospital.
“Words cannot express how proud the FCFEMS family is for Sgt. Dossey’s ability to act while off duty and use the skillset he has trained so hard for to make a difference in a young child and their family’s life,” the department said in a statement.
Dossey will be honored by Fern Creek Fire and Louisville Metro Council for saving the boy’s life on Monday, March 17 at the station located at 6200 Bardstown Road.
