LANCASTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A six-year-old boy has tragically died following a weekend shooting in Lancaster.
The violent ordeal happened just before 12:30 p.m. on Mar. 9 at a home off Mosteller Drive.
Lancaster County Communications received a call from a man, later identified by the coroner’s office as 24-year-old Jacob Tyler Sobieraj, who claimed he’d killed a woman and her child.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they said they found Sobieraj standing in the yard of a home with a weapon. Sobieraj and deputies exchanged gunfire, but it is still unclear who shot first or why. Sobieraj died at the scene.


No members of law enforcement were hurt in the shooting.
Deputies went inside the home to find a 44-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Both were treated at the scene and transported by EMS to a hospital. The six-year-old boy died the next day from his injuries.
As of this writing, the woman remains in the hospital. It is still unclear the extent of her injuries.
The investigation remains open and ongoing. SLED was called in to investigate the shooting involving the Lancaster County deputies.
