CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two people have been charged in connection to a deadly interstate crash that killed one person, according to Mecklenburg County court records.
The fatal accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, along Interstate-85 North near Exit 40/N. Graham Street.
Medic confirmed one person was pronounced dead at the scene and four others were taken to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and three with serious injuries.
NCDOT said the road was closed for several hours at that time.
Dashawn Powell was taken into custody on Friday, March 7, and faces several charges including misdemeanor death by vehicle and reckless driving-wanton disregard. Bond was set at $350,000.
A second suspect, Khai Devane Reaves, was also taken into custody on March 7, and charged with felony death by vehicle and reckless driving-wanton disregard.
Reaves’ bond was set at $90,000. She was able to post bond on March 7, according to court records. Documents state that following the accident, police observed “glassy eyes and alcohol coming from [her] breath,” and said Reaves consented to a blood draw following the crash.
