A 24-year-old Norwalk man has died after his vehicle crashed into a stone wall in Norwalk, police said.

On Saturday around 2:12 a.m., Norwalk police responded to the intersection of East Avenue and Van Zant Street on the report of a one-car crash.

Upon arrival, police said they found 24-year-old Anthony Martinez inside a vehicle that had collided with the stone wall of the East Norwalk Historical Cemetery. First responders said the man suffered critical injuries and was transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital, where he later died, according to police. Martinez was reportedly the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Based on the investigation, police say that Martinez was driving his vehicle eastbound on Van Zant Street when he continued through the intersection at East Avenue striking the stone wall.

The crash remains under active investigation, police said.
