Litzy Flores,Yeferson A Flores Ramos Obituary, Death; – Family members are expressing their grief following the tragic deaths of two high school friends in Illinois, who succumbed to what appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
Authorities in Hoffman Estates, a suburb of Chicago, reported that emergency crews were called to the scene of two unresponsive individuals in a vehicle located on the 200 block of East Berkley Lane at approximately 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, as stated by NBC affiliate WMAQ-TV.
Rescue teams had to forcibly enter the car to retrieve a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, according to reports from ABC affiliate WLS-TV and CW affiliate WGN-TV. Despite efforts to save them, both teenagers were pronounced dead later at a nearby hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims as 16-year-old Litzy Flores and 17-year-old Yeferson A. Flores Ramos.
In response to this tragedy, two separate GoFundMe campaigns have been established for the victims, who were both students and friends at James B. Conant High School.
Yeferson’s mother, Maria Del Carmen, shared her memories of her son, recalling, “I can remember everything” about his life, including his return home from school as a child, according to WMAQ-TV. His sister, Kenzi, expressed her devastation, stating, “I cannot do this. My heart is broken in pieces. I don’t know what to do.”
Kenzi also mentioned that her brother’s wallet was discovered near his workplace, which was not the same location as where his body was found, raising questions about the circumstances. “How did that happen?” she inquired.
According to principal Julie Nowak, Litzy was a sophomore and Yeferson was a senior at the high school. Yeferson had plans to enlist in the U.S. Army after graduation and had represented Honduras at the school’s International Fair just a week prior to his passing. Both students were cherished by their teachers and peers, she noted.
“This is a terrible loss for the entire Conant Community,” Nowak stated in her message to families. “As a school, our thoughts are collectively with the families, loved ones, and friends of Yeferson and Litzy during this extremely difficult time.”
Mental health professionals have expressed their concern regarding the impact of this tragedy.
