Landon Kukla Obituary, Death – It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Landin James Kukla, a 15-year-old student from Western High School in Bay City, who tragically took his own life on Saturday, September 9th, 2023. Born on August 4th, 2008, Landin was known for his outgoing and friendly nature, always eager to make new friends and bring smiles to those around him.
Landin was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind his mother and step-father, Laura and Greg Richard, as well as his father, Donald Kukla. He will be deeply missed by his sisters, Ashley (Ryder) Step, Haley (David) Mowbray, Lyssa Kukla, Clarity Richard, and Jacey Pomaville, along with his step-sister, Karah (Chris) Brandimore. Tragically, he was preceded in death by his step-brother, Jeremiah Richard.
Landin took great pride in being an uncle to his nephews Macade Step, Benjamin Brandimore, and nieces Clara Step, Lily Mowbray, Lola, and Mieka Brandimore. His large extended family includes his grandmother, Minnie Varney, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. As a student at Bay City Western High School, Landin was a loyal friend to many, known for his fierce loyalty and kindness. He had a close-knit group of friends who will miss him dearly.
Landin was an adventurer at heart, always seeking excitement and joy in the great outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, riding horses, or just causing a bit of mischief, he embraced every moment. He was known for his knack for “fixing” things, even if those fixes didn’t always last. His beloved cowboy boots were a constant presence, leaving a trail to his latest escapades. What endeared him most to family and friends was his joyful attitude, which he brought to every situation. Landin was a staunch defender of those he cared about, often putting their well-being above all else.
In his free time, Landin enjoyed spending afternoons in the barn with his horses, Junior and Ember, and staying active with workouts. As a member of the Midland County 4-H, animals played a significant role in his life, from caring for his horses and goats to his faithful dog, Dexter, who was more of a brother than a pet. To pay respects and offer condolences, a visitation will be held at the Auburn Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, September 14, 2023, at 11:00 am at Auburn United Methodist Church, followed by a luncheon. Landin’s family will be present at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service to greet family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the family or at the funeral home will be shared with Bay City Public Schools to support Suicide Prevention Education.
Landin’s memory will forever remain in our hearts, a reminder of the importance of kindness, friendship, and reaching out to those in need. May he find the peace he sought, and may we all work together to prevent such tragic losses in the future
