Jocelynn Rojo Carranza Obituary, Death;- An 11-year-old girl from Texas tragically took her own life after reportedly facing bullying at school related to her family’s immigration status, as reported by various media sources. The girl, named Jocelynn Rojo Carranza in an online obituary, was a sixth-grade student at Gainesville Intermediate School.
According to her mother, Marbella Carranza, Jocelynn endured harassment from peers who allegedly threatened to report her family to immigration authorities due to their Hispanic heritage. Carranza recounted, “Because her parents were Hispanic, they were going to call immigration to take her parents and she would be alone.”
Jocelynn passed away at a hospital in Dallas on February 8, five days after her mother discovered her unresponsive at home, as noted in the obituary.
Prior to her passing, Jocelynn had been participating in counseling sessions once or twice a week to cope with the bullying. However, her mother stated that school officials did not inform her about these sessions until law enforcement intervened, according to media reports.
The Gainesville Independent School District police are currently investigating the allegations of bullying, as reported by various outlets. In a statement, the district emphasized, “Whenever we receive a report of bullying, we respond swiftly to ensure all students are safe physically and emotionally. While we cannot release any information about specific students or incidents, our schools have several policies in place to combat bullying and resolve conflicts.”
Jocelynn had a passion for dancing, singing, playing the French horn, swimming, and enjoying manicures with her grandmother, as highlighted in her obituary.
Her funeral service took place on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gainesville. In the wake of her death, Jocelynn’s father, Ernesto Alonso Rojo, established a GoFundMe page. The most recent update expressed gratitude and a plea for prayers:
“Thank you very much. God bless each and every one of your family members. Please pray for the eternal rest of my little princess. No to bullying, No to racism…” You may find that GoFundMe page here.
