CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Late Wednesday night, President Trump announced new appointments to the Council of Governors, featuring both North and South Carolina governors.
The council is a bipartisan group of state leaders that works to improve state-federal partnerships on key issues like national security, disaster response and military coordination.
Gov. Josh Stein was added as Co-Chair of the council alongside Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The other appointed members include:
- Gov. Ron DeSantis (FL)
- Gov. Brian Kemp (GA)
- Gov. Jeff Landry (LA)
- Gov. Wes Moore (MD)
- Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (MI)
- Gov. Kathy Hochul (NY)
- Gov. Josh Shapiro (PA)
- Gov. Henry McMaster (SC)
The council was established by the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 and formally created by Executive Order 13528 in 2010.
